More about the colon and the process of digestion...
Absorbing nutrients from food
From the moment we put food in our mouths (and sometimes even when we simply see and smell food), the digestive process starts. The first step is chewing and, if you chew thoroughly enough, that food should be easily absorbed, releasing its vitamins, minerals and other nutrients into the body through the digestive tract.
However, unfortunately, with our busy lives, many people choose to go down the processed "fast food" path. As these foods tend to be nutrient-poor and lacking in natural enzymes, this then often leads on to indigestion, chronic heart burn, poor digestion and many other ailments (including poor nutrient absorption, stomach bloating, constipation, wind and other unpleasant digestive complaints).
The role of the colon
The main roles of the large intestine (which consist of the colon and rectum) are the absorption of water and minerals, and the formation and elimination of waste. The colon is a part of the body that is often ignored, but its health (and the state of the bowel and digestive system generally) is essential to general health and well-being.
An efficient and healthy colon will usually eliminate waste from the body 2 to 3 times per day, depending on the number of meals eaten. It will also carry out the essential function of promptly removing harmful toxins and other waste materials from the body which, if allowed to remain, could cause a range of health problems. For example, auto-intoxication (the re-absorption of toxins and bacteria into the bloodstream), which is a common side-effect of constipation and some other digestive system conditions.
There are a number of ailments that can affect the digestive tract, and the colon in particular. One of the most common is bloating, which can cause discomfort - especially after eating. There can also be changes in bowel regularity and excessive flatulence.
There is often more than one reason for these unpleasant digestive symptoms; it varies from individual to individual. Things like stress, travel, illness and lack of exercise can all have an impact. However, diet is often a key factor (including food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities).
Of course, many other health conditions can affect your bowels and any specific concerns should be discussed with a medical professional.
COL-Clear B is designed to help cleanse the colon and the intestinal tract. Research shows a healthy colon is home to billions of good bacteria - intestinal flora - that play an important role in healthy digestion and general physical health.
A programme that addresses the health of the digestive tract in its entirety (including the colon), is now considered to be ideal by the health-conscious.
The careful formulation of COL-Clear B, along with our other digestive system support supplements, mean that they may help to support the health and efficient functioning of the colon and the intestinal tract.
